ADB is looking for a (Senior) Capacity Building and Training Specialist

The Asian Development Bank Institute (ADBI) is looking for a (Senior) Capacity Building and Training Specialist. This Level C (senior) or Level D professional (international staff) position, depending on experience of the successful applicant, will be responsible for designing and delivering CBT training and policy dialogue programs on development issues.

Responsibilities

  • Identify areas, issues, and specific needs for capacity building (under ADBI’s priorities and areas of focus).
  • Design, organize and implement effective capacity building and training (CBT) programs.
  • Give lectures/presentations at CBT events when possible.
  • Draft post-training documents, notably Policy Briefs and possibly training materials, including case studies and handbooks.
  • Assist in the preparation of the annual CBT work program and budget.

Selection Criteria

  • Advanced university degree (PhD desirable but not required) in a discipline related to economic and social development in Asia and the Pacific.
  • Minimum of 6 years working experience.
  • Work experience preferably in an international or regional organization, in capacity building and training and/or policy making.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
  • Strong analytical skills on policy issues related to development and capacity building.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills in written and verbal English.

  • Focuses on achieving work-related deadlines to meet the expected results of the Department.
  • Regularly monitors the progress of work assignments to meet performance targets on time.

  • Motivates the team to work effectively together and with others outside the team.
  • Works cooperatively with ADB Headquarters and other ADBI staff to resolve difficulties and conflicts in relation to priority areas and strategies.

  • Develops innovative processes with staff for knowledge and information sharing.
  • Empowers staff under supervision to make continuous improvements.
  • Encourages the team to share their learning and knowledge.

Immediate reporting relationships

  • The position reports to: Deputy Dean (CBT and Special Activities).

Application procedures

This is a project-limited appointment based in Tokyo for a fixed term of only 3 years with the possibility at ADBI's sole option of one extension limited to no more than 2 years. A further extension of appointment or conversion into a regular indefinite appointment is precluded. At the end of the term, the appointee will not be eligible for continuing appointment or for an immediate appointment to other posts or consultancies at ADB or ADBI.

ADBI offers an internationally competitive compensation package paid in U.S. dollars. Salaries and expatriate benefits are generally free of tax except for citizens of some countries. Applicants must be nationals of one of ADB's member countries.
