Tangerang to Cut Water Supply to Jakarta

The District Government of Tangerang is likely to force water supply cutbacks to Jakarta following the establishment of water crisis in the district.

“Tangerang is in the state of water crisis, so supplies to Jakarta will be stopped,” Tangerang Regent Ahmed Zaki Iskandar said during his visit to Cisadane Floodgate Dam 10 on Tuesday, Aug. 18.

Zaki said the matter is done seeing that the district is experiencing a water crisis, after a drinking water company in Tangerang was hampered because water discharge in Cisadane River continue to recede.

Jakarta has been buying bulk water from local water company (PDAM) Tirta Kertaraharja (TKR) Tangerang District of 2,800 liters per second via Water Treatment Installation Serpong and 75 liter per second through Water Treatment Installation Cikokol.

PDAM TKR CEO Rusdy Machmud say his side has notify Jakarta pertaining to this condition.  “We have notified them through a letter,” he said.

Currently, the most disrupted production is Water Treatment Installation Cikokol.  “It only produces 30 percent from its capacity,” said Rusdy.

The cutback in water supply to Jakarta is by looking at the conditions of Cisadane River in the next 1-2 days.  “If there is no progress, we are forced to stop it,” said Rusdy.
