Join the contest: Water, Climate and...Action!
September 24, 2010
Have a voice in the international talks on climate change!
On the occasion of the 16th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (COP16), the United Nations World Water Assessment Programme and TheWaterChannel.tv, with the support of the Mexican National Water Commission (CONAGUA) and the Mexican Consejo Consultative del Agua, A.C., invite you to share your experience and your messages about climate change and its impacts on water and on your life.
Tell us your story with a max 3-minute video! Show us what climate change means to YOU and your community and tell us how you deal with it!
Entries, in the form of short videos or animations in English, French, or Spanish, will be accepted from 22 September to 15 November 2010.
Of the 10 best films chosen by the Organizational Committee, an international jury will select the three best entries.
Selected films will be projected during a side-event on water and climate change at the COP16, webcasted real-time in 120 locations around the world thanks to the Global Development Learning Network, and used as supporting material to convey the message to policy and decision makers that we must act now to adapt to the effects of climate change!
No fees will be charged at any stage of the contest.
Rules for participation- Participants must upload a short video or animation in the highest resolution possible (90MB Max) to the following web address: http://www.waterclimateaction.org. All types of audiovisual support, including cell phones, will be accepted.
- The films will need to present people's own perspectives on water and climate change, and showcase how lives or communities have changed and adapted over time due to climate change and its effects on water. If there have been major economic, demographic, social or cultural changes (due to water-related natural disasters, floods, droughts, impacts on agriculture, costal erosion, sea level rise, quality or quantity of freshwater resources, migrations, etc), they will need to show how people are dealing with these. The Selection Committee's criteria for film selection will focus on: the impact of the message on the audience (emphasizing the original approach to the subject), the creative approach to presenting the message, and examples of local solutions and adaptation (including traditional practices and community solutions based upon solidarity, awareness and educational activities).
- Videos must be in English, French or Spanish or otherwise subtitled in one of these three languages.
- Participants must complete the online form and agree to the terms of the contest. Otherwise their video entry will not be accepted.

- Of the 10 best videos chosen by the Organizational Committee, an international jury will select the 3 best entries. Prizes will be awarded by the Consejo Consultivo del Agua A.C, and CONAGUA for the three best entries.
