Indonesia Aims to Reduce Plastic Garbage by 1.9 Tons

Indonesian Environment and Forestry Ministry aims to reduce plastic garbage by 1.9 tons in a year through the implementation of plastic bag reduction policy.
"The tryout of the implementation of the program will be done simultaneously in 22 cities in Indonesia starting 21 February 2016, which coincides with the National Garbage Awareness Day,” said Head of Garbage Management Directorate of the Ministry, Sudirman in Bekasi, West Java, on Saturday.
According to him, the production of garbage at the national level in a year reached 64 million tons and is from various types.
"Around 14 percent of it is plastic garbage and equals to 8.9 million tons,” he added.
Sudirman added that the plastic bag reduction policy is in line with the government’s National Mid-Term Development Plan (RPJMN) related to the reduction of garbage at the national level by around 11 percent in 2016.
"One of the efforts is the plastic bag reduction policy,” he added.
