The Segara Anakan Maritime, Fisheries and Resources Management Agency in Cilacap, Central Java, has planned to plant 25,000 mangrove seeds in 2016.
“We allocated about 25,000 mangrove seeds annually to be planted,” agency’s head Supriyanto said on Friday, November 27, 2015.
Supriyanto added that communities and institutions would be encouraged to plant the allocated mangrove seeds in coastal areas or Segara Anakan lagoon as a part of conservation efforts.
Supriyanto added that the regional government called on public and business owners to be involved in the program. In 2015, Supriyanto said, the agency had planted 25,000 mangrove seeds as allocated.
Currently the Segara Anakan lagoon had shrinked to 600 hectares, and the size of mangrove forest in the lagoon is 6,500 hectares.
