BMKG Finds 27 Hotspots in South Kalimantan
November 01, 2015
The Syamsudin Noor Station of the Banjarmasin Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency announced on Sunday, November 01, 2015 that the number of hotspots rose to 27 in South Kalimantan by afternoon.
Syamsudin Noor BMKG head Ibnu Sulistyono said that zero hotspots would not guarantee that there would be no more land fires.
According to Ibdu, Terra and Aqua satellites have a confidence level of above 50 percent.
“It means there are underground hotspots or the fire has not reached the surface,” Ibnu told Tempo on Sunday, November 01, 2015.
In terms of precipitation, Ibnu added, the western and northern parts of South Kalimantan had entered the rain season on the first 10 days of November. Ibnu predicted that the precipitation would be between 5-10 millimeters per day with a medium-scale rain. Ibnu revealed that rain had been pouring Banjarmasin over the last three days.
“However, the rain was still categorized as under normal,” Ibnu added.
Ibnu said that rain would spread evenly in south Kalimantan on the second week of November. Ibnu predicted that the precipitation would reach 100-300 millimeters per month.
