International Training Course on Sustainable Water Resources Management
April 28, 2015
Currently, serious and complicated water resources problems have occurred worldwide. To solve these problems, it is required that sustainable water resources management should be established with special consideration to be placed at all levels.
Sustainable water resources development and management is among the key factors for achieving all of them, not only the “water target” of halving the proportion of people without access to clean water and basic sanitation, but importantly also the Millennium Development Goals (MDG) targets relating to poverty, hunger, health and environmentaldegradation. While these challenges are already daunting, the expected future impacts of climate change, let alone those changes that are already occurring, make them even more acute and difficult to achieve.
However, many ASEAN countries are still lacking of information, knowledge, and manpower to efficiently dissolve water resources-related problems, thus, it will be important in sharing information about best practices, new initiatives, and technology transfer in water resources among the ASEAN countries. Meanwhile, the provision of technical assistance, financial assistance and regional networking are essential to support ASEAN countries to conduct their water resources-related activities. Additionally, capacities building in water resources management in the ASEAN countries are mandatory.
In addition, this course will also provide relevant information and experiences of the development and to make their water resource management programs successful, the participants will be recruited from countries of this region where great needs for capacity building existed. Hopefully, the topic of this current issue in Thailand will be useful for countries participants in the future.
